A standard measurement of a home’s energy efficiency. Ratings
are used for both new and existing homes. In new homes, ratings
often verify energy performance for the ENERGY STAR homes
program, energy efficient mortgages, and energy code compliance.
A Home Energy Rater, using the Home Energy Rating System (HERS),
evaluates home plans and specifications and then models the
entire home is a sophisticated software program to pinpoint
specific, cost-effective energy improvements.
Typically between $300-$500 (depending on the site) for an
inspection and an EPA/RESNET Certified Report.
We look at how your home was constructed, what kind of
materials were used, what heating/cooling system you use, what
type of windows you have, house orientation, and many other
factors. We use the data collected to generate a report that
details how your home uses energy.
Our report will allow you to
look at the energy usage of your home, and, with our
professional staff, make a list of improvements that will
save you money.
Additionally you will be able
to determine a “diminishing returns” point. This point is
the point where spending more money on energy improvement is
not going to save you more money (cost outweighs the
savings). Only an energy rating professional can provide
you with this service.
The typical system costs
approximately $700. Additional features (constant radon
monitors, hidden fan options, and extended pipe runs) add
cost to your system. Call our professional staff for a

The typical system includes a
sealed sump (we seal this to allow us to create a small vacuum
under the slab), a small in-line fan, and some PVC piping to get
the evacuated soil gas to the atmosphere. This piping extends
up the house to exhaust 10 feet away from a window or 2 feet
above the windows or eave.
The typical system can be
installed in 2 to 4 hours
How much
does it cost to fix a Mold problem?
Pricing for mold remediation
varies greatly depending on the amount of mold, the location of
the mold, and the extent of repair necessary. Some remediations
have cost as little as $500 and some have cost well over
$10,000.

Is Diamond
certified for Mold Remediation?
The state of Michigan does not
certify mold remediation. We are a licensed builder and a
licensed lead abatement contractor. If the state certifies us
to work on lead based paint projects, we certainly can handle a
mold abatement project. The containment procedures are the same
and we have specific training on containment for lead abatement.

Can
you fix water problems?
Yes we can. If you do not address
the water problem, you can never fix the mold problem. You
should think of the mold as a “symptom” of the water problem and
not the actual problem itself. We are a licensed builder in the
State of Michigan qualified to work in your home.

Is all
Mold a problem?
Not all mold is a problem. No
mold should be growing on your building materials, but mold
growing on attic sheathing as a result of improper
ventilation, while visually unpleasing rarely presents
itself as a health issue. This mold is rarely a problematic
mold because it is growing outside the living space
(building envelope) of your house.
This mold should be cleaned up
and prevented from reoccurring, but is not the “disaster”
that some mold abatement companies will lead you to
believe. They are trying to capitalize on the “fear factor”
associated with mold.

What is
Weatherization?
In a nutshell,
weatherization is the improvement of the building
envelope to keep the conditioned air in. If you keep the
heat in, you will pay less to heat the home. Hence, you
are not loosing hot air to the outside. This applies for
both heated and cooled air in your home.

weatherization. Obviously a new home needs less than an
old home, but all homes have some areas that could be
improved.

How do
you Weatherize my home?
Several items can be
performed in a house to “seal it up”; some of these
items are calking up the windows, adding foam sealant to
stop air drafts, accessing the attic to install air
barriers to stop hot air from escaping into the attic.
Most of these things are performed while we depressurize
the house to effectively find the leaking areas.
When combined with an
energy audit or EnergyStar performance analysis we can
perform the most cost effective energy saving items
while providing you a detailed improvement analysis of
your home. This analysis will indicate what items to
perform and the anticipated payback time for these
items. This goes way beyond what the typical
“insulation contractor” can offer.

How much does
Weatherization cost?
Depending on the results of the blower door test, we
will make a determination of what weatherization
projects are right for your home. If this is done with
a energy audit, a detailed improvement analysis will be
provided. Typically we try to show a three year payback

How much does it cost to remove Lead from my home?
There is really
no easy way to indicate the costs of these projects.
Typically a detailed inspection is required (called a risk
assessment or lead based paint inspection) to determine how
much lead is problematic or is in the home. Not all lead is
a problem, if it is good shape you may not have to do
