Would you like to weather seal your home to reduce energy bills, stop drafts and feel more comfortable?

Weatherization or weather sealing is the process of making your home more “air tight” and more energy efficient.  The goal of any weatherization project is to keep the warm air in and the cold air out in the winter and the cold air in and warm air out in the summer.

Your weatherization project typically starts with an inspection (this may or may not involve a blower door) and a proposal for the items recommended to be fixed.  These items can typically involve the following:

  1. Weather stripping around windows and doors
  2. Caulking trim and baseboards
  3. Polyurethane foam sealants at carpet borders
  4. Sealing areas where ceiling elevations change
  5. Sealing areas where can lights enter the attic
  6. Sealing plumbing chases
  7. Sealing rim and band joist
  8. Sealing the attic from the rest of the house
  9. Sealing under kitchen cabinets

There may be many more areas depending on the age and style of your home.  The inspector may take a small sample of the weather stripping material to insure that they get the proper one for your job (we have over 200 different materials to use).

How Weatherization improves your home:

  1. Makes your home more comfortable
  2. Makes your home healthier
  3. Your home will be less likely to have Ice Dams
  4. Your home will use less energy

Most projects are completed in one day.  The results should be immediately noticeable; less drafts and more even temperatures throughout the house.  You should also see a savings on your next energy bill.

Most homeowners will see a payback from energy savings in three to five years.   For more detailed information or specific questions about your home call one of your professional weatherization personnel.
